As part of their all new series, Frontier Borneo, Discovery Channel recently released a short episode on the beehives fencing project that began 2 years ago at Sukau Rainforest Lodge, in Sabah, Malaysia.
In order to face the human/elephant conflict in the area (elephants continuously destroy palm oil plantations), Simon and his team study the possibility of using wild honey bees as a deterrent against wild elephants. Watch the video to understand more about this project!
A special thanks to Mr. Albert Teo, without whom this project would never have been possible, to Fernando D. Rulloda for the crazy long driving session all around Borneo to search for wild bees,. to Suhailie for coordinating the project with the locals of Sukau Village, to Amat, our guru, and to Mr. Herbert Lim, our mentor regarding beekeeping!
A wonderful example of teamwork that gives us hope for a better cooperation between humans and elephants in Borneo!
PS: At the moment, the video is only available in Asia. It will be released in Europe in July 2017.
